San Diego, CA – Friday, October 2, 2009 - The San Diego Chapter of Meeting Professionals International (SDMPI) 4th Annual Education Round Table event on September 22nd at the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa included the announcement of the local placement of the MPI Global Training Program, an event that included twelve noted professionals in the meeting industry and a donation of supplies for a local school for underprivileged youth.
Carl Winston, Director of San Diego State University Hospitality and Tourism Management Program kicked off the program with the announcement of the debut of a MPI (Meeting Professionals International) Global Training Center at SDSU. It is the first and only one to be located in the United States at this time. MPI’s Global Training Centers are set to deliver elevated content on a local level for meeting and business professionals. MPI selected SDSU because of its globally recognized meeting and event management courses and its strong focus on business management.
“This is a huge feather in San Diego’s cap,” said Holly Young, President of the San Diego. “ We are excited and thrilled with San Diego being selected as THE location within the United States of America for this Center,” she added.
During the education roundtables, guests were able to select from twelve table topics, each proctored by a noted professional in the industry. Proctors included a former International Chairman of the Board of MPI, a MPI Foundation Chairman of the Board, a international expert on Green Initiatives, and San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau Vice President, among others. Participants were able to choose from an array of table discussions to enhance their business skills, knowledge and promote personal and professional growth.
“The educational round table event was a great way to start off the year. All of the attendees were excited to be able to participate in discussion topics that are relevant to their careers,” said Holly Young, SDMPI Chapter President.
SDMPI continued its support of Monarch Schools, and at this event attendees donated school supplies including a box of sidewalk chalk, notebook, box of pens, gel pen set, a couple of boxes of paper clips, four reams of paper, four packs of mechanical pencils, six reams of construction paper, six boxes of colored pencils, seven boxes of pencils, ten packs of glue sticks, 13 packs of markers, 13 boxes of crayons, and 14 pair of scissors.
The Monarch School was founded in 1988 and is dedicated to providing homeless and at-risk children with an accredited education while also caring for their basic needs. There are currently more than 100 kids between the ages of 7 and 18 attending the school. Sadly, there are over 2,200 homeless children in San Diego. By donating money to The Monarch School, we may allow the opportunity for more local children to benefit from this team of teachers, administrators, and volunteers who want these children to succeed.
